Fort Resolution is located on Slave River Delta at 61°11'N and 113°41'W, 153 air km from Yellowknife.
Fort Resolution is one of the oldest communities in the Western NWT. It has existed on its present site since the 1820's. The community is situated at the focal point of important waterways which formed the transportation network of the early fur trade. During the 1840's and 1850's Fort Resolution was the largest trading post on Great Slave Lake and became an important supply base for other trading posts. A Roman Catholic Mission was built in 1890, and an RCMP detachment established in 1913.
