Kakisa is located on the east side of Kakisa Lake at 60°57'N and 117°02'W, 240 air km southwest of Yellowknife. Kakisa was established in 1962 when the Slavey settlement of Tathlina Lake moved to have closer access to the Mackenzie Highway.
