Sambaa K'e is located at 60°26’ N and 121°15’ W, 161 air km south of Fort Simpson and 442 air km southwest of Yellowknife.

Although the Northwest Company established a post on the Trout River in 1796, the site did not become an organized community until the late 1960s.
