NWT Market Basket Measure
The Market Basket Measure (MBM) is a national measure of low income based on the cost of a fixed basket of goods that represents a modest, basic standard of living. It includes the cost of food, clothing and footwear, transportation, shelter, and other expenses for a reference family of two adults (aged 25 to 49) and two children (aged 9 and 13).
The Northwest Territories Market Basket Measure (NWT-MBM) adjusts the clothing portion of the national basket to better represent life in the North. This has been used to calculate the NWT-MBM for regional centres across the NWT. Documentation detailing these adjustments to follow, however, the methodology is subject to change based on further research.
The amount shown below is the NWT-MBM for the territory's 6 regional centers.
